Walter (Sonny) Paul Schonburg

88 passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Louisville on November 25, 1933 to the late Gertrude and Walter Carl Schonburg. Sonny was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Sonny is a retired Navy Veteran. He is retired from the City of Louisville Parks and Recreation Department. Sonny enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and was an avid University of Louisville Fan.

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Schonburg of 62 years, son Terry Schonburg and sister Jean Allen.

He is survived by his 5 children, Joni Petter (Robert), Danny, Scott (Tracie), Keith (Pam), Kenny; 10 grandchildren, Amber Atkinson-Petter (Jill), Aaron Petter (Katherine), Chad (Lindsay), Brittany Cooper, Zac Malcolm (Jenna), Melody Hill (Cory), Cody (Erin), Conner (Micha), Kennedy Scott (Cameron), Seth (CJ) and 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by his nephew John Winslow.

Visitation will be from 2 – 8 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Ratterman Southwest, 4832 Cane Run Road. Funeral Services will be held at Ratterman Southwest 10A.M Monday, November 28, 2022 with burial at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or Shirleys Way.
