Barbara S. Cardinali, 90, of Frier Lane, Wampsville, passed away on Tuesday November 22, 2022, at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville where she had been a resident since September 14, 2018, following a five year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Barbara was born on December 23, 1931, in Oneida, the daughter of Earl and Lillian Reama Stickels. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Oneida High School, class of 1950.

On April 30, 1955, Barbara was united in marriage in St. Patrick’s Church to NYS Trooper Ralph M. Cardinali whom she had met at Troop D Headquarters. Mr. Cardinali passed way on July 8, 2021.

A homemaker following her marriage, she spent a lot of time caring for her two children, and rescuing cats. Together, she and Ralph, became gifted craftsmen of stained glass. Barbara’s greatest joy in her life was spending time with her beloved granddaughter, Kate. She was the absolute love of her life.

Surviving are her children, Jeffrey (Tamra) Cardinali, of Oneida, and Julie (Lisa Brackett) Cardinali, of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Kate Cardinali, of Syracuse; a sister-in-law, Sarah C. Fruce, of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Eugene E. (Shirley) Stickels.

Barbara’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers of the 1st floor at Iroquois Nursing Home for the kindness and compassion shown to her during her stay. Her family is eternally grateful.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, beginning with a prayer service at 11:00 AM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 347 Main St., Oneida, where the Rev. Christopher J. Ballard will officiate. Interment will take place in Glenwood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to Humane CNY, 4915 W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY, 13088.
