Lamonte Bernard Hopings Sr., age 67, of Oregon, Ohio, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on September 18, 2021 surrounded by his family in the comfort of his younger sister Connie’s home. Lamonte’s strong faith and trust in God, helped him to endure his battle with a long-term illness.

Lamonte was born on August 22, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Lawrence Hopings, Sr., and Loretta (Jackson) Hopings. Lamonte attended Woodward high school in Toledo, Ohio. Growing up, Lamonte had a passion for boxing, he would also spend most of his leisure shooting pool, horseshoes, playing cards and a game of chess. Lamonte also loved clearing his mind, by taking an early morning jog, “Breathing in the fresh air”, as he would say.

In his adult years, Lamonte worked with the family business, specializing in exterior stucco and interior plastering. He was also determined to complete business studies at Owens Community College. Lamonte was wise with countless words of wisdom. He was never afraid to express exactly how he felt. His favorite book he enjoyed reading, was the Bible.

Lamonte was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Lionel Hopings, Jr., and Keenan Leslie Hopings, Sr.

Lamonte is survived by his two sons, Lamonte Bernard Hopings, Jr., and Lawrence (Monique) Lionel Hopings; one daughter, Sonequa Marie Hopings; parents, Lawrence Hopings, Sr., and Loretta Hopings-Levesque; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; brothers, Claude Hopings and Telly Hopings Sr.; sisters, Valerie McCrae, L’Tanya White, Bianca Hampton, Illonna Garrett and Connie (Larry) Walker; longtime companion, Torri Mars; many nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
