Elvira Nolaska Slaughter
<p>Elvira N. (Suber) Riley-Slaughter, was born on January 12, 1925, and she departed this life on August 18, 2021, at the wonderful age of 96 years old. She was born to the union of the late Rosie Welton-Suber and McKinley Suber, in Greenville, Mississippi. Elvira loved God, life, her family, and her community. She accepted Christ at an early age and she was baptized. Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Elvira N. (Suber) Riley-Slaughter. </p><p><br></p><p>Elvira married Grady M. Riley Sr. (deceased) on May 16, 1946. To this union was born four sons and one daughter: Grady Jr. (deceased), Dewayne S. (deceased), Sandra A., Michael A., and Danny C. Riley. Elvira also raised her first grandson as her own: Aaron L. Riley. Elvira and Grady Sr. moved from Mississippi to Ohio in 1952, with the hopes of providing a better life for themselves and their children. Elvira also helped other family members relocate from Mississippi to Ohio, Elvira was always willing to help others, in their time of need, in any way that she could. She provided a safe place for other children in the neighborhood to play, to eat, and just have fun in her home. Elvira was a grade school teacher in Mississippi; she did day work in Ohio to support and care for her family. She was also a school buss driver.</p><p><br></p><p>Elvira married Charles H. Slaughter Sr. (deceased) on May 10, 1977 until his passing in 2003. She loved and respected her step-children as her own: Charles H. Jr., Wilma J. (deceased), Janice S. (deceased), Claudia N. and Maya A. She was a devoted wife and mother to all of her children.</p><p><br></p><p>Elvira was affectionately known by many as "Mother Riley or Mother Slaughter," within her church and community. As a mother, she placed great value in the power of prayer and the Word of God. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 121 and 37. She stated that Psalm 121 had brought her through many difficulties. As a mother, her highest priority was to develop a strong sense of worth and a knowledge of the fact that God had created her children, that we all had a God given purpose.</p><p><br></p><p>After relocating to Ohio, She became a member of the Prayer Band and a Class Leader. In 2000, Mother Slaughter became a member of End Time Christian Fellowship, where she enjoyed being one of the Mothers in the church. </p><p><br></p><p>Elvira was preceded in death by both her parents; both of her husbands; five brothers, Woodrow, Solomon, Albert, Roosevelt, and Charlie Suber; three sisters, Massie S. Hammond, Bertha J. Riley, and Mattie Lee Winters; her two sons, Grady Jr. (Marnette), and Dewayne S. Riley; her two daughters, Janice S. and Wilma J. Slaughter.</p><p><br></p><p>Elvira leaves to cherish her memories, five, sons and two daughters; 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Laura M. Williams and Annie M. Smith (Larry Sr.); and one brother, McKinley (Davetta) Suber Jr.; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.</p>January 12, 1925 - August 18, 202101/12/192508/18/2021
