Mary Alice Fountain was born March 22, 1943 in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Ruby Hughes and John Mesley. She departed this life on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by both parents, and her late husband Alex Fountain.
Mary was united in holy matrimony to the late Alex Fountain for 22 years. Mary was known for being a hard and loyal worker. Down through the years she was gainfully employed at various jobs. Her passion was working with preschool children. She spent the end of her long career with EOPA where she started out as a teacher assistant. During her time with EOPA she scaled the social ladder through earning her Associates Degree in Early-Childhood Education and was promoted to Lead Teacher. She was with EOPA for at least 30 years and was able to join the 30-plus club, which is a club within Head Start that validated teachers who have worked at least 30 years.
Mary confessed Christ at an early age. She served on the Usher Board and many other auxiliaries at St James Baptist church, under Bishop W. J. Murchinson and currently Pastor Steven Cox until her health did not allow her to fulfill her call. One of her favorite songs that she would sing is “In the Morning He is Real, Jesus is Real to Me.” Mary had a passion for helping others. As a result of her generous spirit, patience, pleasant personality and her love for others. She also had a great sense of humor, she could light up a room with her smile and laughter from cracking some serious jokes. Mary- who was known to us as Mae-Mae enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and fishing with her late husband. After her husband passed, her family felt it was necessary to get their mother another companion. They purchased her a little dog- whose name is Al- named after her husband.
