Vanessa Rae Walker Obituary

Vanessa Rae (Horn) Walker of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent Hospital on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born to the union of Curtis Lee Horn and Mary Etta (Pendleton) Horn on August 5, 1954. Vanessa was one of nine children born to this union. Vanessa was 66 years old when she went to be with the Lord.

Vanessa attended Toledo Public Schools and graduated from Macomber Whitney Vocational High School in June 1972. She continued her education in Micro-Business Computers at Stautzenberger College where she obtained her Associates Degree.

Vanessa loved butterflies and the color purple. Her name means "butterfly" and "Goddess of Night". Esther in the Bible was also known as "Hadassah", and Vanessa is derived from that name. Her name is a beautiful name, meaning butterfly and and star, so we fly and shine in her memory.. Many who knew Vanessa knew how funny, kind, giving, loving, and nurturing she was to those she loved. She was always hilarious; full of life and laughter. Her biggest joy was spending time with family, friends, and gathering loved ones together. She also loved to cook, serve, play, and she was the ultimate hostess. She never met a stranger, and everyone was welcomed to her table of life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Charles Shelmon Walker; father, Curtis Lee Horn; sisters, Gloria Jean Horn and Karen Horn.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Marcus Lamont Horn (Tema), Jaymon Lavell Walker (Sheri), and Jasmine La'Cole Dees (Albert); 12 grandchildren, Tela, Marsaun, Quanzelle, Isis, Kai, Solomon, Marue, Breon, Bralin, Gabe, Josiah, and Jade, whom she loved with her whole heart. She also leaves her mother, Mary Etta Horn; sisters, Beverly Jean Bryant-Bey, Linda Horn, Emma Horn, Patricia Horn, Michelle Horn, Sharon Horn; a host of special friends and loved ones, Valencia, Alicia, Lisa A., Rochelle, Jewel, Cornelia, Jonnice, Calisha, Curtis, Surron, Nikki, Tiara, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, and so many more.

Our mom loved everyone she came in contact with and our Queen will be deeply missed. We will never be the same, but she will always be remembered for her Love, Laughter, and Heart. WE LOVE YOU MAMA.
