Kathryn June Pettaway was born May 6, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Mose Johnson Jr. and the late Otha L. Clemons.. She passed away at the age of 95 on Sunday, November, 28, 2021 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center, Maumee, Ohio.


She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kalvin and Carlos, sister Ruth Mae Johnson , husband Willie M. Pettaway, daughter, Kathryn J. Richardson, son Kenneth R. Pettaway,Sr.


At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Third Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Calvin Stallnacker. She later became a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the nurses board. She later the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in early 1970's.


During her youth, she was a persistent hard worker distributing papers along with her sister Ruth, for the Bronze Raven Newspaper, Pittsburgh Currier and the Chicago Defender She attended Classes at the Toledo Museum of Art and knitting classes at the Indiana YMCA.


She was educated through the Toledo Public School system attending Roosevelt Elementary, Robinson Junior High, and graduating from Jesup W. Scott, in 1944. She attended Toledo University.


She was married to Willie M. Pettaway on September 27, 1947. Children, Ronald G. Pettaway (Marva), Patsy A. Smith, Kenneth R. Pettaway (deceased), Kathryn R. Richardson (deceased) Willie M. Pettaway Jr., (Gail), Michael J. Pettaway, her daughter, Sheri L. Johnson (Kenney).


Kathryn later worked the Pinkerton Tobacco Company, United States Post Office, Sears and Roebucks and Lucas County (Keep Lucas County Beautiful).


She loved to draw portraits of people and work on her short hand cook, sew and knit. She listen, to Jazz, Big Band, Rhythm and Blues, Rock and Roll, Down Home Blues and she love to watch American Bandstand on television.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son Ronald G. Pettaway (Marva), daughter. Patsy A. Smith, son Willie M. Pettaway Jr.(Gail), son, Michael J. Pettaway, daughter Sheri L. Johnson, (Kenney). Grandchildren , Gregory L. Pettaway, (Toni), Aaron T. Pettaway, Dawn N. Pettaway, Christopher Smith Jr. (Melissa),Tahya N.

Smith, Kenneth R. Pettaway Jr., (Yoselin)), Isaiah Pettaway, Anthony Richardson, (Robby), Matthew Richardson, Jennifer Richarson Tiffany Langford, (Dwayne) Haley Pettaway and Patrick Pettaway, Dejaun Pettaway and Michael P. Pettaway. Keniesha Johnson, Kenney Johnson, and Kailah. Johnson. 21 Great grand children, and 11 great great grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends. And her only sister-in-law Ruby Butler. (Ruby's Kitchen).

Visitation will be at The House of Day Funeral Service, 2540 Nebraska Avenue. Friday, December 10, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. Funeral Services at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
