Ida Mae Hardy, was born on, August 15, 1937, to George and Ida Mae Young, in Lake Village,

Arkansas. She was raised by her Uncle, George and Aunt, Lula Bryant in Chicago, IL. She departed this life on May 4, 2021 at the age of 83, surrounded by her devoted daughter

Harriet, son in law Melvin, and the villagers Valerie and LeRoyna.

Ida migrated from Chicago to Yazoo City, Mississippi, where she met the love of her life at the age of

12. Ida and John married in 1954, to this union, God blessed them with five beautiful children.

Ida graduated from Yazoo City High School. She retired from the YWCA after over 20 years as

Maintenance Assistant Supervisor and Mixed Company Beauty Salon, where she would

shampoo your hair as if you were in heaven here on Earth. Ida enjoyed gardening, family

outing, dancing, visiting casinos, fishing, goodwill shopping and traveling with her bo, Mr.

Douglas Williams. She also enjoyed talking on the citizens band radio, where she was

affectionately known as the 1st Lady, Lady Sugar Kane. Ida’s God given purpose was to give of

herself in any capacity, giving love and companionship to any and everyone effortlessly.

Ida had an infectious personality to take on things for others more than herself. She was quick to

tell you about yourself and would keep a person laughing. She was affectionately known as

Granny, Gramps, Ms. Ida, Mama Ida, Ma Ida, Great Great and Mom. She enjoyed spending

quality time, laughing and talking on her visits from her grandkids Poppy, Jaylin and Tink .Holidays were a big deal for her, as she was able to spend time with her family and friends.

Ida’s greatest accomplishments were the rearing of her children. She took that job to another

level. She has been a community mom, mentoring kids, which meant her love was limitless. She

never judged a person on the mistakes they may have made. As Harriet says if she needed to be

named anything else, it would have been “LOVE”. Being in her presence exemplifies the true

meaning of unconditional love and strength.

Ida was proceeded in death by her husband, John Hardy of 65 years, daughter Bernadine Hardy,

granddaughter Jody Hardy Sr, parents George and Ida Mae Young, siblings, George, Katie and

Martin.

Ida leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Michael (Phyllis), Dallas (Tammy),

Harriet and Kimberly (Harold) Tate, Sister’s in law, Annie (Thomas)Hardy Stiff and Cheryl Young; brother-in-law, Melvin Martin; niece Debra Nelson, nephew Leroy Hardy and cousin Thomas Quinn who she raised; Douglas Williams, special companion and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,

other relatives and close friends
