Gwendolyn Hobbs, 69 of Swanton, Ohio made her peaceful transition of life from Earth to Heaven on March 10th, 2021 at the University of Toledo Medical Center surrounded by family and friends. She was born on March 18th, 1951 in Cruger, Mississippi to Johnny Mack Sr. and Willa Mae Hobbs. She grew up as the 8th child out of 10 kids on Irwin Road, in Swanton, Ohio. Gwen married her high school sweetheart Eddie Rivers Sr. in 1969. To this union, four children were born.


Gwen graduated from Spencer Sharples High School in Swanton, OH in 1968. During her 4 years of high school, she was captain of the cheerleading squad, and a member of Junior Achievement.


Throughout her years of employment, she worked as head cook for Big Boy and Cracker Barrel Restaurants. After retiring from cooking, she worked for Spring Meadows Nursing Home.


Gwen accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was a member of Greater St. John C.O.G. I. C. under the leadership of Superintendent Johnny Hobbs Jr. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to Gospel, Blues, and R&B music, working in her garden- planting flowers, cooking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Gwen was a free spirit, a firecracker, and one to always speak her mind.


Gwen was preceded in death by both of her loving parents Johnny Mack Sr. and Willa Mae Hobbs, two brothers Joseph and Jessie Hobbs, and sister Maxine Ball.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Paula (Andre) Clark, Eddie Jr., Elkhart, IN, Vincent (Tawana), Nashville, TN, and Gwen (Jeannie) Rivers, Maumee, OH; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; Brothers, Paul (Viola), Swanton, OH, Silas, Holland, OH, Superintendent Johnny Jr. (Eleanore), Swanton, OH, and Lue (Rose) Hobbs; Sisters, Gloria (Sherman) Powell, Holland, OH, and Willa (Albert) Tilman, Ypsilanti, MI; Uncle JB (Alma) Hobbs, Las Vegas, NV; Aunts, Jenny Mae McNeil, Memphis, TN, Alene Hobbs, of Florence Mississippi; special friend of 59 years Bobbi Walker, and a host of nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
