Columbus Sturdivant

<p>Columbus Sturdivant made his heavenly transition Monday February 8th, 2021at his home. He was born October 5,1924 in Coxton, Kentucky to the union of Thomas and Laurette Holley Sturdivant. He came to Toledo at a young age with his maternal grandmother. His teenage years were spent in Bessemer,Alabama until his brother John and sister Laura brought him back to Toledo. He enlisted in the United States Army June 18, 1943 as an Amphibian Truck Driver and battled in Normandy Northern France.</p><p><br></p><p>Columbus received Honors for, Medal of Good Conduct, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). Columbus was Honorable discharge August 26, 1946. He was proud to be a veteran and spoke of his experiences and was proud to have gone on the honors flight to Washington D. C. June 26, 2013.</p><p><br></p><p>He worked at the former Rossford Depot, and The Bentley Construction Company. He retired after working 5O years with Local 500.</p><p><br></p><p>Columbus was an avid fisherman, making trips to Canada and Alabama with family members. He loved making Saturday rounds visiting his family.</p><p><br></p><p>He married Gladies Christine Sturdivant July 24, 1949 to this union three children were born. On April 24, 2007 he married Diane Finklea and gained a bonus daughter.</p><p><br></p><p>Columbus was proceeded in death by parents, former wife and mother of his children Gladies Christine Sturdivant, their daughter Jacqueline Sturdivant, Sisters Laura King, Carrie Daniels, and Thelma Sturdivant, Brother John Henry (Sam) Sturdivant, Son-in-law Edward G. Davis.</p><p><br></p><p>He leaves to cherish memories, beloved wife Diane Finklea-Sturdivant, Daughter Brenda A. Davis, Son Gregory (Denise) Sturdivant and Bonus Daughter Jacquelyne Givens. 11Grandchildren, 24 Great Children, 25 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, friends, and honorary children.</p>
