<p>Anya Dena Seymour, age 64, rested her eyes and went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 26th , 2020 after a long, courageous battle with a rare disease. Anya was gifted to Virgie and James Smith on September 29th, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio. Anya was the oldest of 4 sisters.</p><p><br></p><p>Anya gave her life to Christ at an early age while attending Greater St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Woodward High School in Toledo, Ohio and from the University of Toledo with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She went on to work as a contributor to WKLR radio station and to National Public Radio (NPR's) “All Things Considered”.</p><p><br></p><p>Anya met her lifelong partner and love of her life, Leroy R. Seymour, in Toledo, on March 17, 1978. In 1989, they were wed. This union lasted 31 years, and they were blessed with 3 sons. In January 1995, Anya and her family moved to Toledo to be closer with her parents and siblings. In Toledo, she would often throw dinner parties for all to enjoy, as she loved to be with family. Anya found her calling as an organizer and leader, and became president of the Toledo chapter of Jack and Jill.</p><p><br></p><p>In August 2003, Anya and her family moved to Indianapolis, IN. In Indy, she became the Indianapolis chapter president of the Links Inc., was a member of St. Margaret’s guild, a board member of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, board member of the Madam CJ Walker Theater, and president’s round table, and Ronald McDonald House. In her career, she worked as a sales representative for several companies including Cody, Warner Lambert, Pfizer and Astellas. She rose through the ranks of Astellas as a pharmaceutical sales representative, winning an award as a top sales representative, ranked 10th of 315, in the United States. After her children took on lives of their own, Anya found her second calling, directing Horizon House, a community housing center for the financially disadvantaged in Indianapolis, where she worked until she retired in 2019.</p><p><br></p><p>Anya was preceded in Heavenly rest by her father, James Smith. She will live on through her husband, Leroy; her sons, Lee (Ashley), Teddy, and Paul; mother, Virgie Smith; sisters, Shirley (Chris) Smith, Treveror (Montriese) King, Vonda (Eric) Williams; sister-in-laws, Barbara </p><p>Seymour and Jennifer Harper; brother-in-law, Theodore Seymour; nieces, Erin and Elana Williams; nephews, Sean (Monica) Easterly, James and Jonathon King; great-nephew, Christian Easterly; along with countless loving family and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>In memory of Anya, please consider being a bone marrow and stem cell donor.</p>
