Florine Williams Obituary

Florine Williams was born on Jan. 2, 1933 in Holly Springs, Mississippi, to the parents of Rev. George Barringer Sr. & Irene Tally Barringer. She made her transition from this life into her eternal life on Wednesday January 4, 2017 at the UK Hospital,

She attended school in Mississippi and completed her education in Hayti, Mo., where she later met and married her husband, Joel Williams. They moved their family to Toledo, Oh., where she worked as a Domestic Engineer and a Cook, and later retired from Hunt-Wesson Foods, in Oregon, Oh.

Florine accepted Christ at a very early age. Upon moving to Toledo, Ohio she joined the Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member, for many years, until they branched off and formed the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. James C Adams. There she remained for many years, as an active member of the Choir, Mother’s Board, Mission and Matrons Board, she enjoyed praising the Lord. After the retirement of Rev. Adams, she joined her family at Solomon Temple MB church, where she remained a faithful member until moving to Georgia. Upon returning to Toledo, she became a member of Christ Congregational MB Church, where she remained a member until her health began to fail her.

Florine will always be remembered for her extraordinary cooking skills. Her homemade ice cream, doughnuts, and “melt in your mouth” biscuits and rolls were enjoyed by everyone. She had the best fried chicken you could put in your mouth and the best BBQ around, which is how she got her nickname “Barbeque”. Florine would feed everyone that walked through her door.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, Deacon Joel Williams, two brothers, George Barringer Jr., and Frederick D. Barringer Sr., daughters, Ruth Smith and Martha Cowans, son in law, Jimmy Spears, granddaughter, LeAnna, and grandson, Ernest Joe.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: 7 sons, Joe “J.W.” Williams, Ray C Williams, Leroy Lockridge, Bernard (Michelle)Williams, Herman Barringer, Johnnie (Shelly)Barringer, and Jessie (Brittany)Lockridge. 8 daughters, Minister Doris (Rev.
