Marcus Megueal Gilmore Obituary

Our Condolence and prayers to the Gilmore Family. Service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 11:00 am, proceeded by a wake at 10:00 am at St. Marks. Marcus M. Gilmore, 47, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 7, 2016 surrounded by loving family members. Born March 5, 1969 in Toledo, OH, Marcus was the second son of five children born to the union of Rev. Gennie and Evangelist Mildred Gilmore. A 1988 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School, Marcus excelled in varsity cross country and track, setting school records and winning a state relay championship as part of the 3200 relay team with his brother Marvin in 1987. After graduating from high school, Marcus moved to Columbus, Ohio where he attended DeVry University and began working at United Parcel Service (UPS) in 1989 where he was employed for 27 years. During his years as a driver, Marcus was well known for wearing shorts year round despite even the most frigid temperatures. A die hard Ohio State University football fan, Marcus enjoyed traveling to football games where he was infamous for his dog-like barking. One of Marcus’ was participating in bar-b-que rib-offs and benefits to raise money for those in need; he truly took pride in making people smile while enjoying his delicious creations. Marcus accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a child and was an active member of Word at Work Ministries in Columbus, Ohio under the direction of Pastors Mike and Shirley Peebles. Marcus is survived by his wife, Lisa M. (Zolciak) Gilmore, sons Keith Byers (Columbus, Ohio), Robert Anthony, IV (Toledo, Ohio), Marcus (Ashley) Gilmore, II (Columbus, Ohio), and James Anthony (Toledo, OH), granddaughter Ayla Gilmore, parents Rev. Gennie and Evang. Mildred Gilmore (Toledo Ohio), brothers Genus (Melva) Gilmore and Christopher (Carrie) Gilmore, sisters Honoré (Al) Hunter and Alaska Gilmore, all of Toledo, Ohio, and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, other relatives and many friends, including close friend Angela Mattox who helped our family care for Marcus during his recent illness. Marcus was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Cecil and Lue Hattie Gilmore and Rev. John and Mildred Reese, as well as his brother and best friend Marvin Gilmore. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Amir Mortezavi of The James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University for the excellent care he provided to Marcus during his recent illness. We ask that all acts of kindness be sent to Word at Work Ministries, 931 East Hudson St., Columbus, Ohio 43211. Although the family mourns Marcus’ passing, we are consoled by the knowledge that Marcus has reconnected with his brother Marvin and they are once again the Dynamic Duo in the presence of God.
