Wanda L. Dorsey Obituary

Wanda Dorsey, born May 23, 1949, to Luther Thompson (deceased) and Margaret Pleasant, of Toledo, Ohio, departed this life February 10, 2016. Wanda, a native of Chicago, Illinois, grew up in Washington, DC, and relocated to Toledo, Ohio, in 1978, a move she attributed to the hand of God. While living in Washington, DC., Wanda was employed at Gallaudet University, a world renowned school for the deaf and hard of hearing, where she was introduced to American Sign Language, which she eventually mastered. After moving to Toledo, Ohio, she was employed at Teledyne CAE. Wanda was an Ordained Missionary, Licensed Evangelist, and Lucas County Jail Chaplain, as well as being active in Youth Ministries. In addition, she was Church Administrator for World Wide Living Word Ministries. She served as a volunteer in numerous organizations, some of which include: NAMI as a lead parent partner; Mobile Food Pantry; Pathway Toledo where she was elected by current customers to its Board; Wake Up Youth; Community Liaison with Prevent Blindness; Advocate for the deaf community and the senior citizen populations; and Church bus ministry. Wanda received the 2009 Ohio Outstanding Volunteer Award and joined the ranks of others from Ohio, who have received this distinction. In the past, Wanda was a familiar voice on 1520 AM for Faithway Church of God in Christ's radio broadcast. In addition, she was a licensed realtor in the State of Ohio and took great pleasure in helping families buy their first home. Wanda also served as President of her community condominium association. Wanda was preceded in death by her late husband, William Dorsey, Sr., and brother, Luther James Thompson. She leaves to cherish her memory, mother Margaret Thompson Pleasant; daughter, Tanya Dorsey; son, William Dorsey, Jr.; grandchildren, Shaniece, William, Tiana, Jurnie; great-grandchildren, Rosaleah and Naté; sisters, Margaret Katherine Pryor, Patsy Atkins, Althea Banner, Janice (Adrian) McWilliams, Angela (James) Bailey and Tarvis Parks and loving relatives and friends, including her faithful pet, Diva. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff of Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio. Funeral services are Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 5:00pm, preceded by wake at 4:00pm at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 2001 Ashland Ave, Bishop G.Richard Brown, Officiating
