Bishop William Nelson Clark, went home to be with the Lord at UTMC on May 21, 2015 at 3:20p.m. He was 66. He was in poor health after suffering a stroke back in January. Bishop Clark, Nelson as he was affectionally called, was born October 28, 1948 in Springfield, Ohio to Betty Louise and William Henry Clark, He was raised by his loving grandmother Elizabeth W. Clark. He was a graduate of Springfield South High School he also studied Theology in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 7. He became a member of the Mt. Calvary Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the America. Upon graduating from High School in June, 1968, Nelson then moved to the city of Cincinnati, Ohio. Bishop Clarks ministry began on May 22, 1963 when he preached his first sermon at the age of fourteen in the Mt. Calvary F.B.H. Church of the pastorate of the Rev. B.S. Williams. After moving to the city of Cincinnati, Ohio he enrolled in the Cincinnati Baptist Bible College and Seminary where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 and his Bachelor of Theology degree in 1973. Bishop Clark began his pastoral ministry in January 1973 when he was assigned to the pastorate of the Mt. Pleasant F.B.H. Church in Toledo, Ohio where he pastored for three years. He also pastored the St. Paul F.B.H. Church in Fostoria, Ohio for one year. Bishop Clark pastored both churches until October, 1975 then in July 1976 he organized the Power House Tabernacle F.B.H. Church until October 1977 thereafter becoming an independent church. In August 1980 Bishop Clark became a part of the Church Of God In Christ under the late Bishop F.E. Perry and the Ohio South Jurisdiction. Bishop Perry appointed the Elder Clark, to District Superintendent of the Toledo District in September 1988 where he held office until 1993. Later that same year on November 6, 1993 after resigning from C.O.G.I.C. Pentecostal Christian Churches (P.C.C.) was formed. Pastor Clark was the first Bishop of the organization then with churches in Toledo, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio. In 1992 he accepted the pastorate of the Bethesda Church of Cleveland after the death of their pastor and Bishop, Bishop Redman where he remained for five and a half years. Bishop Clark has been the only pastor of Power House Tabernacle for over Forty years and has done what he could to build up God's Kingdom in the City of Toledo. During his early ministry he served for 17 years as coordinator of the Toledo Sings Gospel which aired on Channel 13, under the direction of the Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance of Toledo. His desire was to do a greater work for God in the City of Toledo to better the community and mankind in our city. Bishop Clark led Power House from it's humble beginnings from Morrish Avenue to the current location at 1228 Campbell St. We thank God for his leadership knowing that God would lead us on with our pastor until we reached the goal and vision he has given our leader. We thank God how he has blessed us under his leadership we were able to purchase a new church with an annex building and parking lot. God has truly moved and we thank God that in this hour our Bishop had a word for these troubled times. In June, 2004 he returned to the Bethesda Church of Cleveland as pastor, pastoring both Power House and Bethesda at the same time. After thirty years of working for Buckeye Cable System our Bishop retired November 1, 2005 and was able to go into pastorate full time. Bishop Clark was thankful for the opportunity to spend more time in prayer and in doing the work of the Lord. In July, 2014 Bishop Clark celebrated 50 years of ministry and 40 years of pastoring Power House Tabernacle Church. Although Bishop Clark had no children he was a father figure throughout the church and community. Bishop Clark was well respected and well thought of as a pioneer in the ministry, amongst all pastors and denominations. Bishop Clark helped with fundraisers assisting various pastors throughout the city and across the county. Bishop Clark joined in prayer vigils with other ministers after the city was faced with extreme violence throughout the city. Bishop Clark wasn't afraid to get involved. He was always willing to come outside the walls and take a stand. He would lead the charge in prayer and help to make sure the community had peace. Bishop Clark served on the diversity Advisory Committee for the Lucas County Children Services. His interest included recruiting foster families and trying to get fathers to be reunited with their children. He brought a commitment to assist those fathers with whatever resources were available. You'll never find a more humble person. Bishop Clark lived what he preached, according to the Bible. At Church is where Bishop Clark was as comfortable singing from the organ as he was preaching in the pulpit. Bishop Clark will be greatly missed by all who knew him, his love of God and God's people will remain unmatched.
