Minister Sarah K. Sawyer, was born on December 3, 1935, in Andersonville, Georgia, to the union of Timothy and Lauraetta Brookins Jones. Minister Sawyer departed this life to be with the Lord on May 31, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 76.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband, Robert Sawyer, and grandson, Alvin "Cedrick" Tate.

Minister Sawyer was united in Holy matrimony to Robert Sawyer. They shared an amazing life together. Minister Sawyer was a faithful member of Third Baptist Church. She was formally the Assistant Pastor of the Family Church without Walls and Associate Pastor of the New Home Missionary Baptist Church.

Minister Sawyer graduated from Scott High School and attended Stautzenberger Business College and Mary Manse College. Over the years she has received countless certificates, licenses and awards for her outstanding achievements. However none made her more proud than receiving her Certificate of Ordination in 2000 and receiving Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Toledo in 2003.

Minister Sawyer worked for the J.C. Penney Company for over 31 years. She also worked for the Toledo Lucas

County Victims Assistance Program as a Victims Advocate assisting victims of crime. She was also a volunteer speaker for the Victims Forum and testified before the U.S. Senate regarding the Older American Act. She was a breast cancer survivor and participated in the American Cancer Society for the "Sister of Courage" 2000 calendar and also participated in the Million Mom March in D.C. against violence and gun control.

Minister Sarah K. Sawyer leaves to cherish her memory two loving sons, Alvin D. Johnson and Gary L. Ruffin; brother, Maurice (Jackie) Jones; sister, Gloria Asbury; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special friend, Delores (James) Shorter, and a host of loving friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held on June 7, 2012, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm, at the House of Day Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8, 2012, at 11:00am, preceded by a 10:00am Wake at Third Baptist Chruch.
