Dorothy Hicks Obituary

“Mother” Dorothy M. Hicks, age 78, departed this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 around loving family. She was born on August 13, 1933 in Lima, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children. Dorothy married Jesse L. Hicks, Sr. and from this union seven children were born. Dorothy was employed at the Toledo Mental Health Center where she retired from. She was appointed as a missionary on March 7, 1983 at St. James Church of God in Christ under the late Bishop William Morgan James. She was the president of The Junior Mother’s Board and a member of the Missionary Society serving as a pastor’s aid.

Dorothy was a faithful member of what is presently known as, The Armory, under the leadership of Dr. William James, Jr. She served in the areas of evangelism, intercessory prayer, and as pastor’s aid under Dr. James. She will be remembered for providing baked goods and treats after services. and for the love she had for Pastor and First Lady James and God’s people. She was known for her selflessness and the joy that she brought to many. Dorothy strived for perfection in her love for her family, as well as her love for the church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother Ella Ellis; two brothers, Tom Ellis and Phil Johnson; and sister, Lillian Wilson.

She leave to cherish her memory, two sons, Elder Jesse Hicks, Jr. and Curtis Hicks; five daughters, Alma Bishop, Susan Hicks, Gloria (Rex) Florence, Etta Hicks of Atlanta, GA, and Juanita (Timmy) Brown of Centerville, Al.; three generations of grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
