Pauline Ladd Armstrong Obituary

Pauline Ladd Armstrong, affectionately known as "Ga Ga", transitioned from this life on September 20, 2011, at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, to her new heavenly home, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 5, 1925, to Will Henry Ladd and Laura McKinney Ladd, in Joiner, Arkansas. Pauline lived in Memphis, Tennessee and attended Memphis City Schools. Pauline moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1942.

Pauline accepted Christ at an early age. She attended St. Peter Baptist Church, in Sanitobia, Mississippi. After moving to Toledo, Ohio, she united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in East Toledo. When Bethlehem moved to West Toledo, she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was very active in the Choir, Mission Society, Sunday School and on the Mother's Board. After moving from the East Side, she attended Rhema Word Christian Fellowship, and at the time of her transition, she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Pauline loved to sing, ,but due to her illness, she was unable to do so. A good gospel song always put a smile on her face!

Though the term may have not been used, we would say today that Pauline was a "Fashion Diva". Her mother made many of her clothes, she wore them proudly and made sure she was dressed from head to toe. According to many, her style resulted in her being known as "Miss Ladd". To add to her stately appearance, she always wore a hat. Often you would hear someone say, "Ms. Pauline, that is a BAD Hat!!!

On November 8, 1958, Pauline was united in marriage to Robert R. Armstrong, the love of her life. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Ardelia and Raynard. Pauline strongly believed in family and only wanted the best for them.

Pauline was a very hard worker and meticulous housekeeper! Everything had to be just right! Over the years, she was employed by Martin Bros. Box Company, Hirzel Canning, Howard Johnson Restaurant and retired from Macy's, (currently, Elder Beerman), as Head Cook in 1985.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Laura Ladd, loving husband, Robert R. Armstrong, brother, Robert L. Franklin, sister, Bertha L. Green, 5 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Ardelia Shuler-Freeman; son, Raynard (Debbie) Armstrong, granddaughters, Devin Shuler,Raya and Rayonna Armstrong; special sisters-in-law, Mary Armstrong, Gladys Armstrong, Blanton and Marie Mickles; and brother-in-law, John Armstrong, and a host of loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Friendship Baptist Church family, Dr. Gokula an assisting physicians, her loyal and committed caregivers at Wolf Creek and Hospice of NW Ohio. Also her loving and suppoirtive family and friends who were there when we needed you most! We love you all!
