Roberta Lee Gant Obituary

GANT Roberta Lee (Stockard) Roberta Lee Gant went home to join the Lord on July 11, 2011. She spent her final days surrounded by family and friends. Roberta was born on May 16, 1933, the second eldest of eight children born to the late John and Dora Stockard Sr. Roberta Gant of Toledo, Ohio, was a faithful member of St. Philip Lutheran church, where at the age of twelve, she began volunteering her gift of music by playing the organ for Sunday worship. She shared a special relationship with Rev. and Mrs. Pranschke, the founding pastor and his wife. Roberta attended Gunkel Elementary and graduated from Whitney High School. As the elder daughter she gladly assisted with her six younger siblings, dressing and guiding them in their daily activities. She met her husband Charles, of forty six years, while he was driving for the Toledo Public Transit System (Community Traction). She often told her children how handsome Charles looked in his uniform. From this union, Roberta and Charles reared eight children. As a mother she was patient, loving, kind and supportive. She often baby sat her many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, spoiling them with candy and other sweet treats. She adored her family and provided loving guidance to her children and others she tucked under her wings. Roberta had a zest for life and loved to celebrate all holidays, especially Christmas, where she transformed her home into a winter wonderland for her family and friends to enjoy. Roberta was employed with the Toledo Lucas County Library, St. Philips Lutheran Church preschool and retired from Toledo Head Start after nearly twenty years of service. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Andrew Stockard. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Charles Gant; her sons, Eric Stockard (Anne), David Gant, Mark Gant; daughters, Kathy Gant, Barbara King (Ricardo), Dr. Pamela Gant-Eribo (Andrew), Roberta Wiggins (Vincent), Cheryl Reese (Lamar); twenty four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
