Minnie Phenix Obituary

Minnie Phenix, was born December 18th 1915 in Extension Louisiana to Ella Mathis and Joe Augurson. On Monday, July 4th, 2011, Mother Phenix peacefully went home to be with the Lord, at the age of 95.


Mother Phenix was baptized at an early age filled with the Holy Ghost. She often talked about how she shouted on the morning bench the Friday she was saved and has been running with Jesus ever since. She was baptized by the late Rev, Sailsbury of the Locust Hill Baptist Church in Extension Louisiana .


Moving to Toledo OH in 1964 she joined St. Marks Baptist Church with Rev. I. J. Johnson . There she continued serving the Lord by upholding her duties in the kitchen and Nurses Guild. Later she became a member of the Mothers Board. Mother Phenix was a dedicated member here at St. Marks Baptist. She was well known for baking her delicious pies and cakes. She loved living near the church and the convenience of walking to St. Marks on Sudnay and throughout the week. Her mission was to help the sick and disabled. As well as, offering advice in reference to the Lord.


Mother Phenix was preceded in death by both parents, husband Sullivan Phenix Sr., 4 sisters, 3 brothers, grandchild Tonya Lynn Smith and great-great grandchild David Joiner

Mother Phenix leaves to cherish her memory of three children Ella (Emerson) Joiner, Sullivan (Joyce) Phenix and Ida Phenix, 5 sisters, Natalie, Estell, Elnora, Juanita and JoAnn residing in Shrevport LA and New Orleans LA, 2 brothers Winnie (Marie) Ridely New Orleans, LA and John Ridley of Monroe, LA, 6 grandchildren Emerson Joiner Jr. Monterey CA., Dexter Joiner ,Suzette (Austin) Phenix-Onipe, Ron Phenix Sr., Miecha (Ricky) White and Chanell Phenix, 12 great grand children and 1 great-great grandchild. 8 special nieces and nephews and a host of other nieces and nephews relatives and friends.


Funeral Services are Saturday July 9, 2011 11:00am at St. Mark's Baptist Church, preceded by 10:00am wake service. Visitation services are Friday 4:00-6:00pm at The House of Day Funeral Services Chapel.
