Barbara Jeanne Coogler-Abernathy, 73, passed away Oct. 11, 2010 at Flower Hospital after a long illness and courageous fight. Married 49 years to the late Edward L. Abernathy III, she also taught at Toledo Head Start (EOPA) for over 30 years. A great lover of music, she taught piano throughout her life and played for various churches and events. Barbara was a long time member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church and a graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School.

She is survived by, daughters, Charmaine and Regina “Gina” Abernathy; mother, Thelma Coogler; brother, Jodie (Virgina) K. Coogler; grandchildren, Brittni, Brandon, and Breyanna; mother-in-law, Reba Abernathy; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services are Saturday Oct. 16, 2010 11:00am at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, preceded by 10:00am wake. Funeral arrangements entrusted to The House of Day Funeral Services
