Howard Lee Holden Obituary

HOLDEN Howard Lee Surrounded by family, and friends Howard Lee Holden, 74, of Toledo, Ohio, transitioned to his heavenly father on July 5, 2010. Howard Lee Holden was born March 27, 1936 in Rankin County, Mississippi to Mary Carlina (Billingsley) Holden and Hallie Holden. Shortly after his mother passed away when he was the age of 18 months old, his family relocated to Toledo, Ohio. There, he and his two sisters, Evelyn and Evelena, were reared by Hallie and their step mother, Carrie (Green) Holden. As a child, Howard joined Bethlehem Baptist Church and participated in the church choir-alongside his father. He graduated from Waite High School and later completed the education and training to earn the status of a Journeyman Millwright. In 1977, Howard and Olivia (Peters) Holden were united in marriage-resulting in 34 rewarding years together. For 16 years, he worked at Johnson Control's Battery Division as a Maintenance Work Leader, before retiring in 1999. He was also a member of UAW Local 12. Howard loved his family dearly but loved the Lord more. He united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1978 under the guidance of Reverend G.J. Johnson and served actively on the Usher Board. In his spare time, Howard also enjoyed fishing, fixing anything he laid his hands on, and bowling. An avid bowler, he participated in multiple bowling leagues and earned his best score-299. Easily recognized by his friendly smile, Howard could often be found lending a helping hand to family and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie Holden, Mary Carlina, and Carrie Holden. He is survived by his wife, of 34 years, Olivia Holden, and former wife, Norris Jean (Holden) Haddad; children, Crystal Kynard (Carolyn King), Jerry Holden (Shea Chambers), Tina Hansbrough (Greg Moore), Howard Johnson (Linda Murphy), Lisa Holden (LaVonda Johnson), James Peters, and Rebekah Brooks; grandchildren, Adam Holden, Tyler Holden, Andre Waller-Murphy, Darrel Reeves, Cherita King, Coretta King, Taylor Peters, Jordan Peters, Karson Peters, Howard Johnson, and Keenan Johnson; siblings, Evelena Shinaul and Evelyn Jones, and good friends, Andy Govan, John Washington, Evans Lyle, Art Walker, Margaret Truss, and Willie Peters (brother-in-law), and numerous nieces, nephew, and friends.
