GAINES Richard Samuel Richard Samuel Gaines entered this earthly realm on October 2, 1950 and went to be with the Lord on December 30, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born to James Gaines and Christine (Gaines) Crenshaw. Richard accepted Christ at an early age under the pastorage of the late Rev. L.H. Newsome at Calvary Baptist Church. He later recommitted his life to Christ at Friendship Baptist under Pastor Duane C. Tisdale. He attended Devilbiss High School. Richard returned to the University of Toledo to major in Social work at the age of 55. Richard had a passion for people struggling with substance abuse. He believed that everyone can get and maintain abstinence if they had the desire to do so, with the principle in mind, Richard dedicated his life to assisting others in their struggle for sobriety. Richard worked as a counselor at Compass for several years and then went on to become director at Philio New Concepts Substance Abuse Program. He was preceded in death by father, James Gaines and nephew, Rudy Jones. He leaves lasting memories to his caring and loving wife, Robin; daughter, Kyndra; son, Neail, father and mother, Roosevelt and Christine Crenshaw; sisters, Sandra Valentine, Pam Gaines, Candace (Michael) Johnson, Denise (Tim) Campbell; brothers, Melvin (Toni) Gaines, Lance Crenshaw and grandson, Shayne. Richard had a very special relationship with his nephew, Michael "Mikey" Gaines. His memories will also be shared by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, as well as children that he loved and cared for, Trisicha and Ricky. Special thanks and appreciation to Faye Heffner, Edwin "Sky" Mabrey, Anne Hubbard, Friendship Baptist Bereavement Ministry and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Services are 6 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, preceded by Wake Services starting at 5 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Bishop Duane C. Tisdale, officiant. Burial Monday at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. Services by The House of Day Funeral Service.
