James Floyd Hopson Obituary

James F. Hopson was born in Lauderdale, Mississippi on August 29, 1945. He was the 12th of 13 children born to the union of the late Willie D. and Susie Hopson. After a brief illness, James passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 27, 2009.


James was educated at Middleton School in Lauderdale, MS. Upon leaving Mississippi, James moved to Toledo and employed by Doehler-Jarvis as a Machinist with until he retired in 1999. At the time of his illness, he was employed at Doyle Manufacturing.


James accepted Christ at an early age in his home town of Lauderdale, MS. He later became a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ Holiness in Toledo OH, where he served faithfully until his passing.


James loved to spend time with his family and friends and loved the holidays. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and basketball. His favorite teams were the Cleveland Browns and LA Lakers. Everyone that knew James knows he was always busy fixing on something, a real handyman. In the words of his granddaughter Troi, “Pa-Pa can fix anything”.


James was preceded in death by his Parents; three brothers, Walter, Robert, and Revarn; four sisters, Geneva Paige, Ida Lancaster, Lela Brantley, and Ruthie Lee Presswood; and a son, Darryl Livingston.


He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife Carrie Hopson; three sons, James Raymone and Prentice Tyrone Hopson both of Altanta, GA, and Demetrius Livingston of Toledo, OH; three daughters Tonya and Lakisa Hopson both of Altanta, GA, and Doretta (Lionel) Maddox Sr. of Toledo, OH, grandchildren Raynesha and Alisha both of Atlanta GA and ten step-grandchildren of Toledo, OH; two sisters, Willie Mae Coleman and Mary Wilkins of Cleveland OH; three brothers, Joseph (Louise) Hopson, and McCurtis Hopson of Lauderdale MS; Eddie (Willerene) Hopson of Grand Rapids MI; ex-spouse, Daisy Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.


Services are 12:00noon Saturday, January 2, 2010 preceded by wake services starting at 11:00am at Mt. Zion Church of Christ, 1501 Western Avenue.
