Chris A Mock Obituary

We lost a caring gentle soul but heaven gained an angel when Chris A. Mock left us peacefully on November 9, 2022, at the age of 69. She was where she wanted to be, in her Puyallup apartment with her 2 cats. Chris was a loving daughter, sister and friend to many in the Puyallup community.

Chris was born on April 8, 1953 at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. She was preceded in death by her father, William Mock. She is survived by her mother Jo Ann Mock, her brother Keith Mock, her sisters Kathy Higgins, Karen Sieg and Karoline Mock, her “adopted” brother Dewey Dahl, many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Chris was a lover of animals, especially her cats. She called them her children.  Chris would always say how important they were and gave her a reason to live during a number of health crisis she experienced throughout her life.

Chris was a Medical Explorer Advisor for 40 years. Her leadership in this role impacted many lives over a couple of generations. She was proud to say that she was the advisor of the children of her first group of explorers. She affectionately called all of them her “kids”. Many nurses, doctors, EMTs, paramedics, etc. who were in Chris’s Explorer Post when younger have said that they have Chris to thank for being successful in their profession. Chris was also the Assistant Advisor of the Central Pierce Fire and Rescue Medical Explorers.

Chris worked in Radiology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup for over 50 years! Everyone at Good Sam knew Chris even many of the patients. Patients would stop by Radiology to see Chris and say hello and thanks.  Her smile and her caring ways made her a popular employee. Outside of work hours, Chris would find time to volunteer at a number of Good Sam departments.

Not only did Chris volunteer at Good Sam, she also volunteered and enjoyed her time at the following departments and events:  Central Pierce Fire and Rescue, Puyallup Fire Department, Graham Fire Department, Riverside Fire Department, Milton Fire Department, East Pierce Fire Department, Relay for Life, various events at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, Graham Fairgrounds and many others. She especially loved waving at the crowd while riding the Central Pierce Fire and Rescue fire truck at the Daffodil and Santa Claus parade.

Chris loved to decorate her home and the Good Sam Radiology department for the holidays. She also enjoyed holiday celebrations. Many of the employees and doctors would be treated by Chris’s holiday cookies! She also brought in treats on off holiday seasons just for the heck of it!

Chris lived in the same apartment, across from the Puyallup Fairgrounds, for nearly 50 years! All her family and friends knew she was at her apartment if they saw her infamous yellow car, the yellow daffodil always attached to her car antenna (on the cars that had one) and Happy Face pillows.

Chris was truly a fighter. She was diagnosed with Lupus in 1967 when she was only 14 years old. Doctors said she would be lucky to live past 3 years. She also experienced many other health issues, just recently a ruptured aortic aneurysm and kidney failure. However, she was able to overcome those issues and continue doing what she loved best, to live life. Chris, even with her many health challenges, truly did have a Wonderful Life.
