Obituary

Vivian Ann “Benny” Hicks was a lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio. She left this life on Friday November 7, 2008 to go home to be with her Lord and Savior, as she was surrounded by her friends and loved ones.

“Benny”, “Bendy”, “Benny Jack” and “Vivirine”. These are some of the names she was affectionately known as, that were given to her by her friends and family.

Vivian was born on November 10, 1953 in Kankakee, Illinois to Medie Hicks Sr. “Poppy”& Lillie Mae Hicks “Jerry Mommy”. She was baptized at New Home Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved music and loved to sing. She also loved to hear the sound of children singing. She attended Pickett Elementary and was a graduate of Libbey High School and Davis Business College.

She was a dedicated employee of St.Vincents Hospital for many years. And though she enjoyed the atmosphere and the people, she still required a certain level of privacy “get away from me”. But you had to love her, because that was just Vivian.

Her pride & joy? Her heart & soul? her everything? Her sons, Ramone “Butchie” and RaShawn “Shawn”. She exhausted every resource she had to make sure they became the gentlemen they are today. Ramone and RaShawn remember how their friends loved to be around her because she was nonjudgmental and so accepting. She had the ability to be a mother figure as well as a mentor. She was definitely not the conventional mother. As if she didn’t have enough with these two here comes Ramone Jr. “RJ” her four year old grandson. This was the new light in her life. “RJ” became her movie partner. They both loved watching movies together and popcorn (god did she love popcorn).

Vivian had an array of exotic and domestic animals though they all lived on the Animal Planet, she loved them dearly. Vivian was an avid reader and often spoke of her dream of playing the piano (go figure). She also loved to dance, most importantly “stepping”.

And though we love her and we’ll miss her greatly, just look at “Jerry Mommy” and Poppy and you’ll see “Benny” every time.

We would like to send a special “shout out” to (her cousin) Marie Ford, her “angel”!!!

She is survived by her sons, Ramone DeShawn and RaShawn Damone. Her grandson Ramone Hicks, Jr. Her parents, Medie Hicks Sr. & Lillie Mae Hicks. Her Sisters Ida Aikerson (Bob) of Crystal Springs, Ms, Evelyn Earl of Dallas, TX Olivia Carter (Randall) of Toledo Ohio.
