JOHNSON Grant Grant Johnson was born October 6, 1922, in Center Point (Howard County), Arkansas to William Grant Johnson and Katie Murphy. God called him home on Sunday, October 19, 2008, at the age of eighty-six. Grant was a member of Glass City Church of Christ where he served as song leader for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was retired from Katy Steele. Grant was a loving, kind person with whom God blessed with the gift of song. Until recently, he was a volunteer at St. Vincent Medical Center where he loved encouraging the sick and employees by singing them a "soul stirring" selection. His favorite past times were visiting and encouraging the sick, hanging out with his adopted children at the 7-11 (Western & Hawley), crooning a tune for the employees at AP Credit Union and visiting the staff at Cordelia Martin Community Health Center who provided his health care for many years. Grant was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tonya McKinley; three grandchildren; five sisters and one brother. Cherishing his memory are his children, Karen Johnson McCallum, Haroldlyn Johnson, Ben (Yolanda) Johnson, Marva Johnson McCoy, Anthony Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Harry Johnson, Larry (Robin) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Pamela (Charles) Johnson Ross; forty-five grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; former wife and mother of his children, Jean Jones; brothers, Howard C. and Arnett Johnson; sisters, Myrtle Greer, Minnie Vaughn and Katie Dedner; special nieces, Barbara Guy (Al Kirby) and Gloria (Jerry) Slatton and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services Friday 12:00 noon at Glass City Church of Christ. Family hour preceding at 11:00 a.m. Viewing at Glass City, Thursday 6-8 p.m. Services entrusted to House of Day Funeral Service.
