Gloria D. Darling Obituary

Gloria D. Darling, 90, of Ferndale, passed away at her home on November 20, 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, MD to the late Melvin and Clara Rolland. Gloria married CWO Robert A. Darling in 1952 and joined him in Germany in 1953. During that time, they also went to France for two additional tours of duty. While in Europe, they traveled to many countries including: Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Norway and Rome. She has been an active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church since 1968. She was certified as an advanced catechist, teaching the 6th grade CCD students the Bible and felt very blessed with her ministry as a Eucharistic Minister. She helped with communion during mass as well as taking communion to the homes of the parishioners who were not well enough to attend. Along with being devoted to her church, she also enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, decorating cakes, playing BINGO and traveling with “the girls”. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her 2nd dad, Edward Johnson; devoted husband of 49 years, Robert A. Darling; and her siblings, Doris Szuba, Helen Cranford, Lorraine Dorsey, Melvin Rolland and Thomas Johnson.

Gloria is survived by her beloved sons, Robert L. Darling (Belinda), Mark A. Darling and David M. Darling (Julie); cherished grandchildren, Brooke Trull (Brad), Robert Darling Jr. (Rebecca), Dawn Carter (Joshua), Angel Darling, Joshua Darling, Jacob Darling and Faith Darling; and loving great-grandchildren, David Lapusnik, Cole Page, Tara Lapusnik, Lilly Page, James Pitman, Sloane Trull, Catherine Darling and Andrew Archibald Darling.

Visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, 1 2nd Avenue SW, Glen Burnie, on Monday, Dec. 5th, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday10 AM, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
