Cecile Edwina Barnes Gourley

Cecile Edwina Barnes Gourley passed away on November 21, 2022 after a short illness.

Cecile was born in Douglas on January 13, 1945 to Cecil and Edwina Barnes. She grew up in Douglas and graduated from Coffee Co. High School in 1963.

For 53 years she was a devoted wife to her husband Ledoy. They had three sons: Tom Gourley (Traci) of Bushnell, Fl., Evan Gourley (Jenni) of Waycross, and Matt Gourley (Candace) of Millwood.

Cecile and Ledoy had six grandchildren: Josh Dixon, Ellen Gourley, Jake Gourley (Caitlyn), Caidyn Gourley, Waylon Gourley, and Wyatt Gourley. They also have one great granddaughter, Millie Gourley.

Cecile was a stay at home mom and raised her three boys. When she was in her 40's, she went back to school to complete her nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse at Satilla Regional for nearly 20 years. She was known as "Mama Gourley" to her emergency room co-workers.

Cecile was a Christian and she and her husband attended Indian Mound Baptist Church.

She was a fantastic cook and loved cooking for her family and friends. Cecile never met a stranger and loved to make everyone laugh. She was the life of the party, a loving mom, and a wonderful Meme. She touched many lives with her humor, kindness, and generosity.

A viewing will be held at Indian Mound in Millwood at 10am on Friday, Nov. 25 followed by the funeral at 11am, performed by Reverend Clayton Davis. Arrangements are being handled by Music Funeral Home.
