<p>It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lois Jean Sider announces her passing on Sunday November 20, 2022 at the N.H.S. Welland Site, in her 88th year.</p><p>Loving sister of Neale Sider and Ronald (Beth) Sider. Beloved aunt to Bruce (Pam) Sider, Donna Sider, Kristine (Tom) Crumb, David (Jeannette Joseph) Sider, Janet Sider, Karl (Jenny) Sider, Rhonda (Mark) Edgington, and Eric Sider. Cherished great aunt to many great nieces and nephews. Lois is predeceased by her parents Christian and Cora Sider, brother Harold Sider, and sisters in law Ardys Sider and Mary Sider.</p><p>In 1955, Lois Jean Sider began her career by teaching at various schools in Welland for six years. She was then presented with the opportunity to teach in Rhodesia (present-day Zimbabwe) for two years where she taught Rhodesian students at the Matopo Secondary School. For a brief period, she returned to Canada where she earned her BA in English from McMaster University. </p><p>The war for independence in Rhodesia forced Lois to relocate to Zambia, which became her new home. In 1979, Lois began teaching at the David Livingston Teachers College where she mentored and supported Zambian primary teachers for the next ten years.</p><p>In 1990, Lois began teaching at the Sikalongo Bible Institute where she helped teach and prepare future pastors for ministry in Zambia. She then retired in 1999. In honour of the work to which she dedicated herself throughout her career, her memorial funds will be designated to the Sikalongo Bible Institute, through BIC Canada Global.</p><p>A special thank you to the staff at St. Charles Retirement Village for the care and support that Lois received during her time there.</p><p>Family will receive friends at the Wainfleet BIC Church, on Thursday November 24th from 5-8 pm and Funeral Service will be held on Friday November 25th at 11am. At the family’s request, masks must be worn while attending the visitation and funeral. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a future date. </p><p>In memory of Lois, donations to BIC Canada Global (c/o Charmaine Stulp, 9 Montgomery Road, Welland ON L3C 2Y2) would be greatly appreciated by her family. Lois' memorial funds will be designated for capital expenses at Sikalongo Bible Institute. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Minor Funeral Home, 315 Broad Street East, Dunnville, Ontario.
