Walter Robert (Bob) Novack Obituary

Walter Robert (Bob) Novack, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, ME.

Bob was born in Shamokin, PA on May 26, 1940, the oldest son of Walter and Clara Novack. The family moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1941. He attended local schools and following graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force. After completing basic training and tech school, he was stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, ME.

While at Dow he met his future wife, Deborah Stimson of Sanford, ME, who was attending the University of Maine in Orono, ME. They were happily married on August 25, 1962, and celebrated their 60th anniversary in August of 2022.

Over the years Bob worked for Thurston Erlandsen Corp. at the Sanford Airport learning many skills and working on the development of an experimental Lake Aircraft; Components Inc. (later Corning Glass Works) as an Engineering Tech in Kennebunk and Biddeford; Sprague Electric and Fairchild Semi-Conductor. He retired in 2006.

For many years he was actively involved in Masons, Scottish Rites, and Shrine. He was a Past Master of Preble Lodge No. 143 Lodge of Masons in Sanford, ME. He was also continually active serving in the First Baptist Church of Sanford and later at Springvale First Baptist Church.

For the past three years he has enjoyed ushering at the Sanford Performing Arts Center.

Bob’s “happy place” was in his shop working on projects, crafts, toys, and making things for the home or for the church. All six grandchildren each had a special box for their treasures as well as beautifully made special toys that involved a lot of detail. Debbie might also design a special box or tray that she wanted, and he would make it. Oftentimes they worked together on a project with Bob doing the building and Debbie doing the staining and finishing.

Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always patient, thoughtful and ready to go with the flow. Whether it was driving hours to a swim meet, umpiring a baseball game, setting up for a band concert, or setting up the big family tent for a weekend of camping, he was involved with his family’s activities.

He was always willing to do for others. It was his way of showing how much he cared about the people in his life. Quick with a smile and a joke or a story, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by the loves of his life, his wife Debbie, and three children – Scott Novack and his wife Lisa of Boxford, MA; Julie Novack of North Berwick; and Jason Novack and his wife Melissa of Boxford, MA.; and six grandchildren ……. Ainsley, Haven, Kayla, Veronica, Ashton, and Ethan.

He is also survived by a brother, Dennis Novack, of Philadelphia. His sister Bonnie Dramis and brother Barry Novack were deceased.

A Service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Springvale First Baptist Church, 429 Main Street., followed by a luncheon in the Vestry. Committal prayers with military honors will be at the Southern Maine Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, in Springvale at 1:00 p.m.. Anyone wishing to attend may join the family there.
