<p>Maria died peacefully at the age of 87 on November 17, 2022 following a life filled with many challenges. She is predeceased by her husband Antonio with whom she had forged an unbreakable bond and is lovingly remembered by children, Carlos (Julia), John (Lori), Fernanda (Rob); and granddaughters, Suzanne, Rebecca and Lauren, and will be missed by her extended family and friends. </p><p><br></p><p>Immigrating from Portugal, she made Winnipeg her home enjoying work in the garment industry before becoming a homemaker and provider of childcare to family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and gardener. She cherished her close relationship with her granddaughters which were a source of immense happiness, and pride. She enjoyed travel to Portugal in the company of the two older granddaughters on several occasions. Unfortunately, future adventures were cut short following a stroke in 2002 which changed her life. The family wishes to thank all the staff and in particular caregivers at Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their dedication, kindness and prayers. </p><p><br></p><p>A viewing will take place Friday, November 25 at 12:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Parish Church with funeral mass to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.</p><p><br></p>
