Carl H. Meiers, 87, Neenah, was called home by his Heavenly Father on September 16, 2010 at 9:15 AM at Vallhaven Care Center. He was born June 24, 1923, to Karl and Margaret (Grota) Meiers in the town of Appleton. Carl was the youngest of four children. Carl married Alfrieda Hintz on June 22, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neenah. Together they raised four children. Carl loved the outdoors and felt God's presence there, whether he was walking through the pines of Northern Wisconsin or out on a lake. Carl enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his sons, Daniel and David. Carl also loved traveling, and along with Alfrieda he visited all 50 states, completing the state visits with Hawaii, which they visited during the year of their 50th wedding anniversary. Much of the traveling involved visits to family members, whether it be his daughter, Paula, in Maine, Montana and Washington, daughter, Ruth, in Illinois and Missouri and son David in New York and Colorado. Carl was the cook of the family and his "Daddy Burgers" and "Scrambled Spam and Eggs" will be missed. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Alfrieda, to whom he had been married for 64 years. Carl and Alfrieda were partners, and did things together. The couple had become known as the "Vallhaven Love Birds." For their final days, the care center had moved their beds together, and when Alfrieda passed away two days earlier, she was found clasping Carl's hand and with her head on Carl's shoulder. Carl's life ended peacefully this morning with a smile on his face and a bright twinkle in his eyes as he looked heavenward. He is survived by his children, Daniel Carl (Lori) Meiers, Menomonee Falls, WI; David Lee (Mary) Meiers, Bartlett, TN; Paula Jean Meiers, Tacoma, WA; and Ruth Ann (Bobbie) Coble, Stratford, MO; four grandchildren, Ann Marie Meiers, Chicago, IL; Mark David Meiers, Green Bay, WI; Tommy Joe Goodwin and Cassidy JoAnn Goodwin, both of Stratford, MO; a sister-in-law, Josephine "Bea" Hintz, Neenah; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Carl was also preceded in death by his parents and Dorothy Ashman and Charlotte Mollett, his sisters, and Shirley "Red" Meiers, his brother. Funeral services for Carl and Alfrieda will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah with Rev. Greg Otterstatter officiating. Carl and Alfrieda will be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 AM Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
