Laurence Swaab, 64, Neenah, died unexpectedly in Clear Lake, Iowa, Saturday, August 14, 2010. He was born July 19, 1946, in Duluth, Minnesota, son of Francis and Evelyn (Cummings) Swaab. Laurence grew up in Superior, graduated from Cathedral High School in 1964, and attended UW-Superior. On August 17, 1968 Laurence married Patricia Molter, and she preceded him in death January 27, 1998. Laurence worked for 25 years as a switchman/brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad. In 1975, while working for the railroad, he began a career in property management. In 1989 Laurence joined United Financial Group, Inc. as the President of the Property Management Division in Appleton. On March 24, 2001, Laurence married Julianne Hein. He was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard as well as a member of Appleton Alliance Church. Laurence was always willing to fill a need even before being asked. Laurence is survived by his wife, Julianne; children: Julie (Travis) Chaney, Megan Swaab, DVM, Travis (Crystal) Hein and Gregory (Jackie) Hein; 6 grandchildren: Alexander Belling, Samuel Belling, Emmaline Belling, Hannah Chaney, Grant Belling, and Abigail Hein; a sister, Bernardine Kolstad; brothers: Paul (Susan) Swaab, James (Joan) Swaab, David Swaab; 2 sisters-in-law: Sandra Swaab and Victoria (Jerry) Velleville; 2 brothers-in-law: Steven (Diane) Schmudluch and Scott (Julie) Schmudluch; mother-in-law, Wilma Schmudluch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. Laurence was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Joseph and Thomas Swaab; a brother-in-law, Gene Kolstad; father-in-law, Rhynold Schmudluch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Appleton Alliance Church, 2693 W. Grand Chute Blvd., Appleton, with Rev. Bill Barwis officiating. Interment will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial Street, Neenah, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, and again at the church from 10:00 A.M. Thursday until the time of the service. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. Military honors will be performed by members of the Wisconsin National Guard following the service at the church. Laurence believed the greatest joy was serving others; therefore, in lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to continue his service to others.
