Judith "Judy" A. Freund

Judith "Judy" A. (Strutz)(Theis) Freund, 73, Neenah, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2011 at Cherry Meadows Hospice, Appleton. She was born August 9, 1938, in Appleton, daughter of Orville and Erna (Sorensen) Strutz. Judy graduated from Appleton West High School and went on to nursing school at Presbyterian St. Luke's College, Chicago. She met her children's father, Howard Theis, while he was in medical school in Chicago. They were united in marriage on June 14, 1960, and had three children: Tracey, Mark, and Lisa. Later on in life, Judy attended and graduated from Alverno College, Milwaukee with a Masters degree in Nursing. She then moved to San Diego, CA and worked at Scripps Clinic for a few years. Shortly after, she returned to Wisconsin and married Douglas Freund on May 20, 1989. Doug preceded her in death on April 16, 2007. Judy enjoyed reading, cooking, painting, and spending time with her kids and two grandkids. She especially enjoyed going out to Portland, OR to spend time with her daughter Lisa and family. In addition to her children: Tracey (fiancAC. Mike Van Pelt) Theis, Appleton, Mark (Ewa) Theis, Appleton, and Lisa (Mike) Burner, Portland; she is also survived by; two grandsons: Cruz (special friend Raechyl) Theis and Sam Burner; a brother: Dick (Lynne) Strutz, Little Chute, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Terrol Freund, Rochelle (Harv) Jacobs, Dennis (Nancy) Freund, Cindy (Tom) Olsen, Jon (Nancy) Freund, Craig (Marcia) Freund, Kevin (Debbie) Freund, and Kim (Terry) Tessendorf; a niece; nephew; cousins; other relatives; and many cherished friends. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and husbands. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, September 30, 2011, at First English Lutheran Church, 326 E. North St., Appleton, with Rev. Jeff Tengesdale officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Judy's name. Judy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical and care management staff at Appleton Medical Center and also the staff at Cherry Meadows Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
