Frances Cecelia Gerber

Frances Cecelia "Fran" Gerber, 80, Appleton, died after diabetic complications Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Brewster Village. She was born March 23, 1932, in Portage, daughter of George and Ella (Reichard) Gerber. Frances began teaching in 1952, at the age of 19 in various one room school houses. While teaching, she continued her education, achieving a B.S. Degree in Education. Following this, Frances taught 8 years at the Oneida State Graded Schools at Chicago Corners. She enjoyed the Oneida culture and heritage, and visited and studied at the Indian Centers of New York City. Through her passion in teaching and Oneida heritage, Frances was able to incorporate this into her classes and curriculum in the Oneida State Graded Schools. She was instrumental in establishing the Girl Scout Troops in the Oneida area; giving young girls an interest and chance of becoming young leaders. Frances also was able to use her interest in Oneida heritage to teach the Girl Scouts about their heritage and lore. Because of her passion and dedication to Girl Scouts, Frances achieved a "Lifetime Member of the Girl Scouts". In 1968, she began teaching in Seymour Community Schools until her retirement in 1987, and during this time Frances obtained her M.S. Degree in Education. Following her retirement, she became a library helper in 3 parochial schools. She finished her education with a Theological Degree from St. Norbert College. Frances was proud to be a Proctor in the MENSA organization. Traveling was her passion and her travels included 4 trips to Germany to reconnect with family members that still lived there. She was associated with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah. Frances is survived by 13 nieces and nephews: Bill (Sam) Rogers, Sherwood; Larry (Pat) Rogers, Appleton; Mary (Greg) Bares, Fitchburg; Jim (Jean) Rogers, Neenah; Frank (Kaye) Rogers, Larsen; Wally (Bonnie) Rogers, Menasha; Ken (Sandy) Morgel, Black Creek; Bette (Jack) Buss, Greenville; Harry (Deb) Schoff, Burgettstown, PA; Barb (Ron) Sense, Greenfield; Dee (Bob Printz) Schoff, Amherst; Aileen (Jerry) Goodwin, Wisconsin Rapids; Ruth (David Bohman) Mason, Menasha; many other great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ella Gerber; 2 sisters: Marcella Rogers and Lenore Schoff. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah with Fr. Michael Ingold officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Frances name. Frances family wishes to thank St. Paul Elder Services Assisted Living along with Brewster Village and staff for their outstanding care and compassion.
