Roger D. Ely
Roger D. Ely, 88, Neenah, died peacefully Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Irish Road and Villa. He was born April 28, 1924, in Cumberland, son of Scott and Rosa (Graham) Ely. Roger was employed at American Can for 46 years until his retirement. Roger loved to 'tinker' any chance he could. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making lawn ornaments. He also enjoyed collecting model cars, trucks and tractors. Roger loved cookouts and dining out with his family. Roger is survived by his sons: Gene D. Ely, Neenah and his son, Gene Ely Jr.; Thomas J. (Sherry) Ely, Menasha and their daughters: Stacy, Kimmy and Kristy; a sister-in-law, Olive Ely, Ely, MN; long time special friends, Marie Jacob and Lou Sturm, both of Appleton; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Helen Wendt; a son, Ronald; siblings: Clifford Ely; Katherine (Roy) Bauman and Ellen (Ardeth) Wiser. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah with Pastor John Slotten officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Roger's name.
