Joan Vogel Bachman of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly longtime resident of Newark, Delaware, passed away on November 19, 2022. She was born on August 29, 1930, in Wilmington, Delaware to Helen Bachman Shortt and Earl Shortt. Joan graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Goldey-Beacon College where she studied business. She would later retire from the Recorder of Deeds Office of New Castle County. Joan was an avid gardner, ultimately receiving her master gardner designation. A life long member of the Newark Library, she was a voracious reader and an enthusiastic support of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. She loved spending time at the beach with her extended family, and wintering in Florida. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her late husbands, Albert Vogel and Harold Bachman; son, Robert Vogel; and sisters Marjorie McLaughlin and Betty Neylan. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Yeager (John); 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many much loved nieces and nephews; as well as countless life long friends near and far. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice and Morning Pointe Assisted Living of Knoxville for their support and care. A graveside ceremony will be held at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware, at a later date. Charitable donations may be made in her honor to St. John the Baptist Church, Eatn Main and North Chapel Streets, Newark, Delaware.
