Vicki Duval Obituary

May 26, 1953 - Nov. 15, 2022

Vicki Duval peacefully ended her life’s journey at home on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, with her sister by her side.

Predeceased by her parents, Clifton Duval and Marian (Collins) Lashua. She is survived by her sister, Laurie Holmes of W. Bloomfield, N.Y.; brothers, Mark (Debbie) Duval of Rochester, N.Y. and Vincent Duval of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Vicki was born in Star Lake, N.Y., and forever loved the Adirondacks of her youth. Theatre was also an enduring passion from the time she appeared in her first school play. After graduation, she left home to study theatre arts at Onondaga Community College and State University of New York at Brockport.

She worked with Bristol Valley Playhouse in Naples, N.Y., during several summer seasons as an actor and director. She was also a costume designer and expert seamstress producing costumes and hats for a number of theatre groups.

Her leadership positions at arts organizations included Managing Director for Rochester Community Players, Education Director at Geva Theatre, Director for the School of Performing Arts Program at Eastridge H.S. in Irondequoit, and Director of Arts and Learning for Young Audiences of Rochester. After becoming a self-employed grant writer, she worked with arts-related clients until retiring in 2021.

In addition to enjoying a wide range of creative activities, Vicki was an avid reader and a student of world religions. She started reading poetry at a young age and eventually began writing poetry as well, which became an enduring pleasure in the later years of her life. Her last poetic achievement is an inspired 26-stanza work: “Adirondack Girl: A Memoir in Haiku from A to Z.”

A large network of friends, including many of her former students, treasured Vicki’s wisdom and patience, appreciated her wry sense of humor, admired her enduring fortitude and grace. She enriched the lives of others in countless ways while also being a role model for living with disappointments and significant challenges without bitterness or complaint.

A private burial was held at White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, N.Y. A Celebration of Vicki’s Life for her family and friends will be held Saturday, December 3, at 2PM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 48 Perrin Street, Fairport, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, Vicki requested donations be made to PUSH Physical Theatre’s work with medically fragile and underserved youth. Go to pushtheatre.org/donate. Click the red “Donate” button and select Vicki Duval’s Legacy when prompted. Additionally, donations may be made to UR Medicine Hospice, 2180 Empire Blvd, Webster, NY 14580.
