<p>Dixie Lee Magee, 74, of Rockford, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford with her family by her side. She was born January 8, 1948 in Belvidere, the daughter of Joseph Basil and Mabel Elizabeth (Peterson) Lawler. She graduated from Auburn High School in Rockford in 1966. Dixie married Michael “Mike” Patrick Magee on July 21, 1979 at First Church of the Brethren in Rockford.</p><p><br></p><p>Dixie worked at Bill Hembrough Buick, PoJo Pacemaker and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center all in Rockford. Dixie and Mike then later owned and operated Chamfermatic Inc. in Rockford for 27 years. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as thrift shopping, playing slots at the casino, anything to do with animals, laughing and spending time with her friends and family.</p><p><br></p><p>Dixie is survived by her husband, Mike Magee of Rockford; son, Kevin (Cindy) Magee of Laona, WI; daughter, Kelli (Tom) Faris of Soldotna, AK; grandchildren, Cynthia Faris, Toria Faris, Toshi Faris, Glora Magee; great-grandson, Mitchell Faris; sister, Bonnie Speers of Pecatonica, Joyce Land of Durand; numerous nephews and nieces, including special to her heart, Kelly Speers, Michelle Vesely, Kim Stender.</p><p><br></p><p>Dixie is predeceased by her parents, brothers, Milton Lawler, Merrill Lawler, sisters, Beverly Anderson, Shirley Peters, Phyllis Kleckler.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral service 12:00 p.m., with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 25, 2022, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Pastor Kevin Kratzer of the Berean Baptist Church in Rockford officiating.</p><p><br></p><p>Interment at Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery near Pecatonica. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the Winnebago County Animal Services.</p><p><br></p><p>Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. I went to school with Dixie. MY sister and I did house cleaning. We cleaned house for Bonnie and she referred us to Dixie. It was a pleasant surprise to find out it was Dixie, a classmate of mine. She has always been a very sweet and kind person.

Mike and I bet on the horses every Saturday via an online site, Twinspires.com. Many times Dixie said “Powell, if the horse’s name has any reference to a kitty, it’s a winner - place the bet”!! What a great animal lover! She actually was right more than once!
