George Allen "Coach" Conque Obituary

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for George Allen “Coach” Conque, age 86, who passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Courtyard Manor in Lafayette.


Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Mark Ledoux, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.


George Allen Conque, born January 30, 1936, was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro and was a 1953 graduate of St. Stanislaus College. Upon graduation, he furthered his education with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received his Bachelor’s degree, later obtaining his Master’s degree in Education from McNeese State University. George retired as a teacher and coach from the Lafayette Parish School Board and throughout his years, served as a mentor to many student athletes.


Mr. Conque, better known to the Carencro community as Coach Conque, belonged to the ULL and LSU Track Association, and coached the Junior Olympics. Coach Conque was actively involved in the betterment of youth sports and the City of Carencro serving as Councilman for thirty-two years.


A devout Catholic, Mr. Conque was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Bonne Mort Society and Sacred Heart League. He attended weekly adoration and prayed the rosary daily with the rosary group. Mr. Conque was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and mentor. He will be greatly missed by his family and community.


Survivors include two sons, Ricky Allen Conque of Colorado Springs, CO and Terry Anthony Conque and his wife, Colleen, of Lafayette; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Conque Guidry of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Dustin Michael Guidry and his wife, Julie, Mark Anthony Conque and his wife, Meghan, and Brooke Conque Steiner and her husband, Kade; seven great grandchildren, Abigail, Grant, Elana, Graison, Gunner, Gage and Andre; and one sister, Marie Lynn Martin; and one sister-in-law, Gertie Conque.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Jane Conque; one son, Randy John Conque; his parents, George Joseph Conque and Laurence Conque; two brothers, Norbert John Conque and Michael Dudley Conque; and one grandson, Jeremy Allen Conque.


A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.


Pallbearers will be Dustin Guidry, Gerard Martin, Mark Anthony Conque, Dean Schexnayder, Alfred Senegal, and Antoine Babineaux. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Conque and Blaine Conque
