Shirley Ivey Obituary

Argyle TWP – Shirley E. Ivey, 80, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022 in Argyle TWP, Maine, with family by her side. Shirley was born on September 14, 1942, in Houlton, the daughter of Charles and Thelma (Cunliffe) Weed.

She graduated from Ricker Classical Institute, Houlton, in 1960 and married her husband Paul A. Ivey, in July of that same year. She and Paul lived in Winslow when first married, later returning to Houlton and Hammond for many years. She had many jobs over the years including working the annual potato harvest, sewing gloves for the glove factory and homemaker. She always enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors gardening or visiting with neighbors. Cooking was her gift and many stories have been shared about the meals she prepared. Her three grandchildren were a priority in her life and she always made it a point to attend as many of their activities as possible. She will always be remembered as a caring, positive, outgoing person who enjoyed friends, family and lobster.


She is survived by her two sons, Paul (PJ) Ivey and his wife Kristina (Tina), of Argyle TWP, along with their two children, Kendall Ivey of Auburn and Sam Ivey of Argyle TWP., and Charles (Chuck) Ivey and his wife Carman, of Houlton, along with their daughter, Amber of Houlton; one sisters Dawn (Weed) Bubar of Linneus. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Thelma Weed, Littleton and her husband Paul A. Ivey of Houlton; sisters Sandra Sharpe, Fort Fairfield, Judith (Judy) Ivey, Houlton, Anita Thornton, Monticello and brother, Terry Weed, Houlton.


A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Monday, November 21, 2022, Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, Maine, with a committal immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, Smyrna Street in Houlton. The family would like to thank Pastor Dan Morse for officiating. Flowers can be sent the day of the funeral to Bowers Funeral Home.
