Lucy (Zentner) Senek Obituary

Lucy Senek of Russell, Manitoba passed away on November 15, 2022 at the Russell Health Centre at the age of 92 years.

Lucy was born on April 14, 1930 to Michael and Mary Neumeier on the family farm in the Landshut District, Langenburg R.M. She attended public school at Landshut and continued high school at the convent in Lebret, Saskatchewan. She then took nurses training at St. Boniface hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba and graduated as a registered nurse in 1952. She worked at Langenburg Hospital until she married Simon Zentner on May 9, 1953. Sy and Lucy travelled around Saskatchewan, Montana, and Alberta (living mostly in a 6x10 trailer) where Simon worked on the oil rigs. Sy and Lucy bought Forget Hotel in January 1957 and sold it in October 1961. They then bought Marchwell Hotel in 1962 and some farmland. They lived and worked in the hotel until it burnt down in 1973. Lucy had returned to work at the Russell Personal Care Home in 1972 where she worked until retiring in November 1990.

Lucy and Sy then bought more farmland and moved to the farm east of Marchwell, Saskatchewan. Sy passed away on April 14, 1980. On November 19, 1984 Lucy married Mike Senek and moved to Russell. Lucy and Mike bought a cabin at Silver Beach in 1995 and spent a lot of time there in the summer. Lucy moved to Vancouver in 2005, then to Brandon in August of 2018, and back to Russell in January of 2020, then to Shoal Lake nursing home in September of 2022.

She was very community minded and belonged to many different organizations; Catholic Women’s League, Marchwell Ladies Auxiliary, Marchwell Curling Club, Langenburg and Russell Activity Centers, Nurse’s Association; she helped with the Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels and helped at the church with decorations. She loved to play cards, read books, coffee with friends, do jigsaw puzzles, play scrabble and tile rummy.

She was predeceased by husbands Simon Zentner and Mike Senek; son Sheldon; brothers Leonard, Joseph, Aimie, Bernard, Gabriel and sisters Jeanne and Francis.  She is survived by her 3 sons; Darryl (Belva) Zentner, Clayton Zentner and Findlay (Kate) Zentner; daughter Darla Zentner; 3 grandchildren Lincoln & Gina Zentner and Ryan Thorne; brother Edward Neumeier and sister Mary Sinclair.
