M. Kenneth Herndon Obituary

M. Kenneth Herndon, age 82, of DeLand, FL passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022.

Ken was born on May 22, 1940 to M.K. and Helen Herndon in Ware County, GA.  He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1962.  On April 7, 1963, he married the love of his life, Garie Brock, in Folkston, GA.  He served as a Pharmacist, first at Folkston Pharmacy, then at Eckerd Drugs for 20 years, and finally at Florida Hospital DeLand until his retirement.

A man with a true servant’s heart, Ken was a long-time active member and deacon of Stetson Baptist Church.  He taught Sunday School and was always ready to help those in need.  Ken served the Lord faithfully throughout his life.  All who knew him recognized his gentle and humble spirit and loved him dearly. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always setting an example for godly living and selfless service.  Ken loved spending time with his family whether at home, at the beach, or traveling to exciting destinations.  Affectionately known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, he especially enjoyed sharing his love for the water, whether fishing or canoeing, with them.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Garie.  He is survived by his daughter Sonia (Randy) Cohen, his son Tim (Marcia) Herndon, his grandchildren Garrett Cohen, Lindsay (Brandon) Jackson, and Alex (Alexandra) Herndon along with his siblings Downey Herndon, Bradley (Joyce) Herndon, Bill (Sarah) Herndon, Richard (Patsy) Herndon, Mahala Giddens, and Susan Powell.
A visitation for Ken is planned for November 21, 2022 at 10:30 am at Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, FL with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am.  Anyone wishing to honor Ken’s lifelong commitment to family and Christian values may make donations to One More Child, formerly the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. The mailing address for donations is P.O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802.
