Obituary

My dad, Lawrence (Larry) Michael Hammer, passed from this world, and moved into his new home in Heaven, on November 13, 2022.

Dad was born to Frederick McKinley & Eugenia Hammer on July 26, 1947.

Dad is survived by his son, Lawrence (Larry) Hammer Jr of Metropolis, IL and his sister, Laura (Graham) Jones of Carrolton, TX. Also, a niece, Beth Jones and her brother, Tristan Jones, his best friend, Christy Paskey of Fort Worth, TX and her children (whom he enjoyed helping with their upbringing) Reese & Ashton.

Dad was preceded in death by both his parents, his uncle John and aunt Pat Maynard.

Dad was a carpenter by trade, and a lover of history in his later years. Dad had many passions throughout life, but none made him prouder than his son.

Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, cats, cooking with his son, watching the history channel, sitting at the kitchen table and watching the squirrels and deer in the front yard, and cheering on his Notre Dame Fighting Irish & Chicago Bears.

Dad’s faith was very important to him, as every morning, Dad prayed with his rosary.

Dad graduated from Larkin High School in Elgin, Illinois in 1965.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Golconda, Illinois. Burial will follow at Massac Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Saturday at the church.
