Gail Inez Byrd

<p>Gail Inez Byrd, age 65 of Leesburg, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born on April 23, 1957, in Longview, Texas to the late Drew Edwin White and Nora Blevins White. Gail worked in the oil field and was a housewife in her early years. Later she went to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She worked on the Beto and Johnston units and retired with 28 years of service. Gail loved helping her community. She was always the first in line to help and organize projects. She was an awesome cook. Her briskets, potato salad and beans were second to none. Gail volunteered at the Northeast Child Advocacy Center. She absolutely loved children. Gail loved to spoil her grandchildren. At times her and the grandchildren could be found in the woods on some wild adventure. Gail was a true friend, if she loved you she would tell you and if she didn't, she would tell you. Survivors include her daughter, Jessica Svetlik and husband, Justin of Fulshear, Texas; son, Chris Byrd and his wife Jessie of Mexia,Texas and stepson, Johnny Byrd and his wife Patti of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Jimmy White of Oklahoma and sister, Ann Green of Jumbo, Texas; along with seven grandchildren, Mattox, Aurora, Grayson, Easton, Christopher, Zachary, and Jordyn. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX. A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Dr. David Rose conducting. If desired donations in Gail's name can be made to Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center - 5920 TX-37, Winnsboro, TX 75494</p><p><br></p>

Q: How did you meet Gail?

A: I worked with her at the Johnston unit from 2002 until she retired. She was always smiling and was nice to me and cared about others. So sorry for her loss.
