Beverly J. Swan Obituary

Surrounded by her family, Beverly Swan, age 91, of Stevens Point, WI passed away peacefully to readings of the 23rd and 27th psalms, at The House of The Dove Hospice in Marshfield, WI on November 12, 2022.

Beverly was born in 1931 to the late Stephen and Alma Bogaczyk in Stevens Point, WI. She attended St. Peters Catholic Grade School and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1948. Later on, she attended VO-TECH (Vocational Technical School) learning secretarial skills, shorthand, and typing. She also took computer classes at MidState Technical Institute in the 1990’s.

She married her high school sweetheart Joseph L. Swan in 1949 at St. Peters Catholic Church. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage and resided in Stevens Point, WI.

Beverly worked for a brief time before marriage at Hardware Mutual (Sentry) Insurance. She was a homemaker for 18 years and then continued her secretarial career. She worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company until she changed employment to St. Michael's Hospital in the Personnel (Human Resources) Department working there until her retirement in 1988.

While working at St. Michael's Hospital, Beverly and her husband invested in several UWSP student-housing rentals. She took total responsibility of renting, keeping the books, and even cleaning them to her ultra high standards.

She was a devout Catholic attending St. Stephens Catholic Church until her health deteriorated. However, she then enjoyed viewing religious television, praying the rosary, and never missed a Heart of the Nation televised Sunday Mass. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Beverly contributed to multiple Catholic charities. In 2002, she joined Unbound, a Catholic Relief Service, and sponsored a young girl from Chile for the past twenty years. In the last few weeks of her life, she sent the girl from Chile who was now a young mother, her monthly stipend.

When her daughters were young she was a Girl Scout leader in the 1950s for her oldest and a Brownie leader in the 1960s for her youngest. She enjoyed helping her troops earn multiple badges and selling cookies.

Throughout her 66 years of marriage, some of her favorite times were traveling the world with her husband. They took many cruises that took them to every continent in the world except for Antarctica. She enjoyed going down the Amazon River and walking through bazaars in Istanbul and Morocco. Their travels took them to Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, thoroughly enjoying the topography and natural beauty of numerous other countries in Europe and the Caribbean Islands with Greece and Italy being her two favorites. She was an avid lover of Dean Martin’s music. She enjoyed trips though the states, with Hawaii and Florida being her favorites. She also enjoyed her annual trips to Door County with her 3 best friends to pick cherries, go shopping, and of course she loved the fish boils too.

She spent much of her later years being the best grandmother her grandchildren could ever ask for. She took pride in her grandson Zane earning his PhD in Electrical Engineering and her granddaughter Sabrina finishing her PhD in Nursing. Her grandchildren remain forever grateful for her unconditional love and support, which not only helped but also inspired their success in academics. She was an inspiration to many family members and friends and always had a positive attitude even during her uphill battle with cancer.

Survivors include her daughters Laura Swan of Stevens Point and Mary Swan of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren Zane Jamal-Eddine (Kate) of Oregon and Sabrina Jamal-Eddine of Chicago; siblings Steve (Helen) Bogaczyk of Stevens Point; brother-in-law Larry (Chris) Swan of Chicago; sister-in-law Joan Dubrow of California; 2 nieces; 2 nephews; and many extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, and her brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Phillis Bogaczyk.

The family would like to thank the Oncology staff at Marshfield Clinic in Stevens Point, and the compassionate, caring staff at the House of the Dove Hospice in Marshfield, WI.

A Funeral Mass with Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at St Stephen Catholic Church. Visitation will precede at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be held in St Stephen Catholic Cemetery.
