Thelma Elsie Scott Obituary

Thelma Elsie Prescott Miles Scott was born December 8, 1930 to Theophilus and Catherine

Prescott in Absecon, New Jersey. She entered into rest on November 12, 2022. She attended Absecon Public School and Pleasantville High School. In 1952 she met and married the late Edward Miles Sr. relocating to Atlantic City, New Jersey where she worked at various establishments including MC Shrank’s, IKE’S Record Shop, Hickory House Bar and First Jersey Bank. She also was employed by Zaberer’s Restaurant, Smithville Inn. Thelma worked at Caesar’s Casino, Trump Plaza and Harrah’s Casino from where she retired. In 1965, while working at Zaberer’s Restaurant, she met Lockland Scott and in 1967 they married. Together they built a happy and successful life in Atlantic City and Pleasantville. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother as well as a loyal sister and friend.

Family and friends were a very important part of Thelma’s life. She was delighted to be surrounded by family and good friends; whether it was a backyard cookout or a Holiday dinner, she would be in the midst basking in the moment. Gardening was another one of her delights. She took the term ‘’green thumb’’ and made it an art form. From the first signs of spring to the last breath of fall, you would find Thelma in the backyard tending to her garden. A founding member of the Voguettes, she was also a founding member of AARP Pleasantville Chapter #5317, where she held the post of secretary and treasurer. She is predeceased by her parents, five brothers, Nathaniel, Rogers, Peter, Paul, Kenneth and one sister, Gertrude.
