Myron Lewis Noffsinger

<p>Myron Lewis Noffsigner, age 98 of West Jefferson, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 2pm at Beaver Creek Christian Church with Rev. Lorne Lung officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.</p><p><br></p><p>The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. Noffsinger was born in Harper, KS on October 20, 1924 to the late Perry and Elizabeth Noaker Noffsinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Oller of Spivey, KS, Blanch Barnard of Caldwell, KS, and Pauline Still of California. Brothers, Elwin Noffsinger, Harold Noffsinger of El Dorado, KS and Wilbur Noffsinger of Wichita, KS.</p><p><br></p><p>Myron was raised in Harper, KS on a large wheat farm on 320 acres; large fruit orchard, milk cows, and horses. Myron graduated from Harper High School in 1941, his father bought him a VS Ford (not new). Later moved to Montrose, CO, bought another farm. Myron worked for JC Penny until he volunteered for US Navy, first went to Farragut, Idaho was trained for Radio Operator School. All the training was for International Morse Code; sending and receiving. Next to San Diego and boarded S.S. Jean Lafitte to the South Pacific. He was based on shore, they slept there on the Polo grounds along with General Douglas Mac Arthur, after discharge he took flying lessons from two retired Army Pilots for his licenses. Later, worked for (DRGW) Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Company and worked in the office. Married Velma (Vel) Greer in Grand Junction, CO in 1962. They loved to ski in the Rocky Mountains. Later in life, Myron loved working with stain glass and repaired old clocks. Moved to West Jefferson, NC in 1982, worked for Vannoy Construction. Joined Beaver Creek Christian Church in 1990, and was Chairman of Board and an Elder for several years, loved singing in the choir until later with health problems.
