<p style="text-align: center;">Herbert “Herb” Silas Jenkins&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;October 24, 1945 – November 12, 2022</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Herb Jenkins of Mount Pearl on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the age of 77 years. Herb is predeceased by his parents: Herb and Louise Jenkins; precious daughter Trina Hodge (2021); brother Roy Jenkins (2013); sister-in-law Jean Jenkins (2018) and special nephew Daryl Smith (2021).</p><p><br></p><p>Leaving to mourn with loving memories his devoted wife of 52 years Loretta (Lol) nee Burry; beloved son Terry (Melissa) of Edmonton and their family; much loved grandson and little buddy Brady Hodge; three wonderful sisters: Bernice Smith, Louise Hallingham and Helen Hodder (Don); in-laws: David Burry (Lorraine), Rowena Murphy (Peter), Audrey Butler (Bud) and Connie Burry as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Herb will be remembered for his many athletic achievements and his dedicated service to the sport associations in Mount Pearl and St. John’s. His love for sports began at the age of 12 as a pitcher with the Babe Ruth Little League Baseball and that love for sports continued throughout his entire life. Herb has many inductions which include the Soccer Hall of Fame for St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Newfoundland and Labrador. His dedication as a soccer referee earned him in 1975 an appointment to officiate in National Challenge Cup Soccer Competition. He went on to officiate many soccer games in Newfoundland and across Canada. In his later years Herb enjoyed Slow Pitch softball with the Mount Pearl Softball Association.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Herb’s medical team especially Dr. Stewart Rorke, Dr. Chris French, his family physician Dr. David Hart and to all the staff at the Chemo Clinic (Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Centre), Dr. Daulton and palliative care team, community care nurses, Alicia and Jessica and to all who supported him on his journey.</p><p>To all his Timmie’s buddies: He looked forward to Tuesdays and loved you all. To Jimmy and Neil a special thank you for the rides and all your support.</p><p><br></p><p>Herb will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege to know and love him.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VOWR Radio Patrick Street, St. John’s or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Centre</p><p>At Herb’s request cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home 73 Commonwealth Ave, Mount Pearl on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 2:00 -4:00 pm and 7:00 -9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm from Wesley United Church, Patrick Street.
